    my scanner turned on but suddenly letters disappear and the screen remains blank. scanner is brand new

    Hmmm, if it is brand new, and you just purchased it from a Internet shop, then it is quite possibl it is a counterfeit. Pls contact your dealer and ask for a return and refund.
